Community support has taken on an entirely new meaning and level of importance throughout the recent months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many members of Beacon Pointe are doing their best to support their local communities. Recently, Jimmy and Nikki Ferrell – with the help of a dedicated committee – managed to raise funds in support of the Morning Star Catholic School, despite the hurdle of no traditional fundraising events amidst social distancing mandates.
Since 1960, Morning Star Catholic School has been working to fulfill its mission to provide children with special needs the opportunity to embrace their potential, and to enable children to function more independently and guide them in their spiritual, academic, social, physical, and emotional journey. Morning Star Catholic School has educated over 2,000 children, giving them a more energized outlook on a life filled with faith and possibilities. Mr. Ferrell, Partner and Managing Director of Beacon Pointe’s Florida office, has been an avid supporter of Morningstar, served on the board, and chaired the Annual Morning Star Gold Classic golf tournament event for over 20 years – and integral event in the school’s funding.
The 50th Annual Morning Star Gold Classic golf tournament was scheduled for this past April 2020, but unfortunately had to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Morningstar relies heavily on the funds raised each year as one of two major fundraisers that support the school. In spite of not being able to host the golf tournament event, they were still able to raise over $90,000 from local sponsors and past participants. “It is a tribute to many participants wanting to give unconditionally to such a worthy cause,” commented Mr. Ferrell, “Morning Star School is important to us because the precious children with special needs are able to learn basic life skills from dedicated teachers and staff in a loving environment.”
Our hearts are warmed by this uplifting story. We continue to encourage each other to be stewards of our time, capital and our other gifts and natural abilities – and make a positive difference in our communities.
