Beyond the Call of Duty: St. Mary Medical Center Foundation

Since 1970, the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation has funded various capital improvements, equipment, programs and services of St. Mary Medical Center through ongoing fundraising campaigns, annual special events, and generous unsolicited contributions.

The focus on anticipating the needs of its current and future patients is how St. Mary Medical Center continuously thrives in an increasingly challenging fundraising environment. St. Mary and its Foundation go above and beyond the call of duty to provide access to programs and systems that fulfill the needs of their surrounding communities.

St. Mary has established programs such as Families in Good Health which helps otherwise marginalized and disadvantaged individuals gain access to necessary health and social resources. This program includes access to low-cost health insurance as well as infant care and education for adjusting new mothers.

The Center also houses the Low Vision Center which offers optometric services to the Southern California community by helping persons with limited vision obtain their fullest potential using optical aids, allowing patients to achieve the greatest degree of independence possible regardless of the extent of their visual loss. Services include vision screenings for the elderly and creating partnerships with different Long Beach-area high schools to distribute prescription glasses at no cost to students. Most recently, the Center has signed a contract to provide free vision screenings to high school students located in Compton, CA.

The Foundation’s current focus is raising funds for a separate emergency department for elderly patients of St. Mary. The need for this separate emergency department came from an observation of the tremendous population of seniors in the Center’s home of Long Beach, CA and its surrounding communities. This new facility will have a specific focus on geriatric medicine and presents a calmer and safer experience for elderly patients as it will be physically located in a separate area away from the trauma bay. Thanks to a generous benefactor’s donation, St. Mary Medical Center Foundation has raised more than half of the funds to open the emergency department!

This summer, St. Mary Medical Center Foundation will be hosting its Annual Charity Golf Tournament. The golf tournament raises funds for St. Mary various community health programs and services, including the new emergency department. Beacon Pointe is a proud participant of this tournament and a proud supporter of St. Mary mission of bettering its community.

We are honored to serve the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation whose values and focus align with that of Beacon Pointe’s Institutional Consulting Services Group.
